Watching You Tube music videos can be similar to smelling a fragrance for the first time in years. You Tube music videos can make us instantly recall old memories. While watching You Tube music videos I’ve revisited childhood, adolescence and my early twenties. Often you will automatically remember exactly what you were doing at that time in your life. Take for example the above video clip, in which British band the Eurythmics perform the song There Must be and Angel. When I first heard this song I was ten years old and skating at an ice rink. Therefore, I will always associate it with feelings of joy and excitement.
Watching old You Tube music videos as an adult makes you appreciate them anew. As I child, I didn’t realize how talented Eurythmics singer, Annie Lennox, actually is. When I watch Annie perform this song live as an adult, my jaw drops at the power of her incredible voice. It also strikes me that I must have been accustomed to the style of clothes that was popular for women back in the 1980s. Looking at Annie’s androgynous suit and hairstyle today, it’s hard to believe she is heterosexual, yet she is. Does that mean I have more stereotypical ideas than I did during childhood?
