Getting’ in the Way by Jill Scott is one of the most amusing music videos I have ever seen. The theme is somewhat different to that of music videos that focus on falling in love and breaking up. In fact, this video reminds me of high school and adolescence. Unlike other music videos, there are no scantily clad beauties or rakish young men with no shirts on here. In this music video, Jill Scott pays a visit to another woman who is trying to steal her boyfriend. She confronts the other woman on her doorstep and threatens to beat her up if she doesn’t keep away from her man. I think fighting over boys is common among young girls, especially in certain neighborhoods. As a girl develops into a woman, hopefully she realizes that men are not worth fighting over. This is one of my favorite music videos because it reflects urban reality more than most. It also offers us women the opportunity to laugh at the stupid things we did when we were younger. This video definitely has elements of satire. Singer Jill Scott obviously had a lot of fun shooting it.
